Virginia Tech
On Saturday, February 7, 2009, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, VA, the Georgetown Hoyas took the ice against the Hokies from Virginia Tech University. Going into the game, the Hockies were in first place in the ACCHL with an unblemished 7-0 record in league play, and 15-6 overall.

Aside from the first period, the game was a 1-1 tie. Before and during the first period, unfortunately, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. For example, there were no referees present at game time, VA Tech scored an early backhanded goal past a screened Hoya goalie, and then followed it up with a quick second goal on a deflection. VA Tech scored 3 unanswered goals in 6 minutes to take a 3-0 lead. To make matters worse, VA Tech scored again in the first two minutes of the second period to stake a 4-0 lead, which was too steep for the Hoyas to overcome.

Despite the disappointing start, there were a few bright spots for the Hoyas, who never gave up, kept their composure, committed only 4 minor penalties during the entire game, and nearly equalled the Hokies in shots--29 to 31. Midway through the second period, Alex Yale-Loehr (Fr-Ihaca, NY) scored a power play goal on a rebound, assisted by Adam Willner (Sr-Montclair, NJ). Co-Captain Charlie Walsh (Jr-Cheshire, CT) played an extremely strong game on defense, as did Alternate Captain Brendan Surma (Sr-Pittsburgh, PA). Hoya goaltender Greg Graham (Jr-Downingtown, PA) made several outstanding saves in the second and third periods to keep the Hoyas within striking distance.

Before the game, Georgetown gave special recognition to the following outstanding seniors on this year's team:

--#6, from Montclair, NJ, Senior Captain Adam Willner.
--#8, from Pittsburgh, PA, Alternate Captain Brendan Surma.
--#15, from Clifton Park, NY, Ryan Murphy.

--#25, from Wayzata, MN, Will Peterson
--#26, from Bethesda, MD, Alternate Captain Pete Black.
--#29, from New Canaan, CT, George McGinniss.
