Georgetown 4, Duke 3. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD, the Georgetown Hoyas faced off against the Blue Devils of Duke University in an ACCHL match-up. Although Duke has been struggling this year and had a short bench, they have an excellent goaltender and play a controlled style of hockey that can win games. In the first period, Duke packed the defensive zone and took only 3 shots on goal. Unfortunately for the Hoyas, 2 of the shots were redirected into the Georgetown goal and Duke led 2-0 going into the first intermission. In the second period, Georgetown started to wear down the Duke defense and scored 2 goals to tie the game 2-2. During this period, the Hoyas outshot the Blue Devils by the incredible margin of 26 to 4. With 13:09 remaining in the second period, Georgetown forward Alex Yale-Loehr (Soph-Ithaca, NY) got the Hoyas on the scoreboard by chipping the puck into the net from close range, assisted by Pete Owen (Freshman-Westwood, MA) and Dan Lechner (Sr-Rockville, MD). With 6 minutes remaining in the second period, Pete Owen scored off a spinning shot from the right circle by Alex Yale-Loehr to tie the game 2-2 heading into the second intermission. Early in the third period, Brad Cadigan (Freshman--Weymouth, MA) gave the Hoyas their first lead of the game by scoring on a quick shot from the right circle, assisted by Lou Aronne (Sr--Greenwich, CT) and Alec Estey (Soph--Toronto, Canada). Two minutes later, Duke answered and tied the game at 3-3. With 10:31 remaining in the third period, Alex Yale-Loehr fired a perfect pass from the right boards that was redirected into the goal by Pete Owen. This turned out to be the game winner for the Hoyas, who won their 10th straight game and improved their overall record to 14-4. Unfortunately, with merely 26 seconds remaining in the game, the Hoyas star forward, Alex Yale-Loehr, was checked from behind into the boards and suffered a dislocated shoulder that likely will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
