On Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, VA, the George Washington Colonials defeated the Georgetown Hoyas 5-1. Although the game was closer than a 4-goal deficit, the Colonials outplayed the Hoyas and earned the victory. Georgetown's record is now 1-1.

GW jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, in which they outshot the Hoyas 17-10. The the second period, the Hoyas rallied and had several scoring opportunities, but could not penetrate the goal. To make matters worse, with merely 15 seconds remaining in the second period, GW scored a shorthanded goal to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the final period.

The only highlight of the game for the Hoyas occurred late in the third period when Pete Owen (Freshman, Westwood, MA) skated through the neutral zone, cut to the left circle, and scored on a hard wrist shot that found nothing but net.

Overall, GW outshot the Hoyas 38 to 29.
