Georgetown 6, The College of New Jersey 1. On Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Loucks Ice Center on the campus of The Lawrenceville School, Georgetown soundly defeated The College of New Jersey 6-1. After a close first period, the Hoyas dominated the action and tamed the Lions, outshooting them 44 to 24 for the game. The only score in the first period came in the final two minutes when Charlie Beller (Jr-Chappaqua, NY), from the blue line, dumped the puck into the Lions' zone, but on goal. The bouncing puck eluded the New Jersey goaltender and landed in the back of the net, giving the Hoyas a 1-0 lead. Andrew Foley (Sr-New York, NY) assisted on the play. In the second period, the Hoyas scored 4 goals to put the game out of reach. The first 3 goals were on power plays initiated by Hoya defensemen from the point, and the 4th goal was shorthanded. First, while on a power play, Brian Brauth (Grad-Hoboken, NJ) scored on a rebound of a slapshot by Charlie Walsh (Sr-Cheshire, CT). Second, Charlie Walsh gave the Hoyas a 3-1 lead by scoring on his signature slapshot from inside the blue line. Next, with 2:30 remaining in the second period, Alex Yale-Loehr (Soph-Ithaca, NY) scored on a wrist shot, assisted by Dan Lechner (Sr-Rockville, MD) and Charlie Walsh. Merely one minute later, while shorthanded, Alex Yale-Loehr took a pass from Dan Lechner, blasted past the Lions' defense, and deked the goalie with his signature backhanded breakaway move to give the Hoyas a commanding 5-1 lead. The final goal of the game came with 7:29 remaining In the third period. While shorthanded, Alex Yale-Loehr streaked down the left side and delivered a perfect pass to Lukas Autenried (Soph-Wallisellen, Switzerland) who was driving hard to the far post. With precision timing, Lukas one-timed the puck past the Lions' goalie to give the Hoyas their final tally for a 6-1 victory. Contributing to the Hoyas' victory was a solid defensive effort, led by the New Canaan, CT trio of Richie McGinniss (Soph), Gus Thompson (Jr.), and George McGinniss (Sr.), along with Peter Bourneuf (Soph-Boston, MA), Alec Estey (Soph-Toronto, Canada), Charlie Beller, and Charlie Walsh. Greg Graham (Sr-Downingtown, PA) was stellar in goal, saving 23 of 24 shots by the New Jersey Lions.
