Georgetown 6, NC State 3
On Saturday night, November 8, 2008, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the Georgetown Hoya Hockey Team earned an impressive 6-3 victory over the Wolfpack of North Carolina State University. It was a hard-fought come-from-behind victory for the Hoyas, who evened their record at 5-5 overall and now are 3-0 in the ACCHL.
The Hoyas were losing 3-1 with less than two minutes remaining in the second period, and then scored 5 unanswered goals to put the game in the win column. The Hoyas featured a well-balanced attack with major contributions from all three lines. Alex Yale-Loehr (Freshman-Ithaca, NY) gave the Hoyas a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a beautiful wrap-around goal, assisted by Lukas Autenried (Freshman-Wallisellen, Switzerland) and Assistant Captain Brendan Surma (Senior-Pittsburgh, PA). After the Wolfpack tallied the next 3 goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead, Lukas Autenried scored for the Hoyas with 1:32 remaining in the second period by tipping in a shot from the point by Alex Yale-Loehr, assisted by Junior Captain Charlie Walsh (Jr-Cheshire, CT). The score then was 3-2 in favor of NC State going into the final period of action.
The Hoyas were “on fire†in the third period, outskating and outhustling the Wolfpack at every turn. John Ryder (Freshman-Cleveland, OH) got things started with a goal at the 14:55 mark to tie the game 3-3, assisted by Alex Yale-Loehr. With 7:35 remaining, Senior Captain Adam Willner (Montclair, NJ) fired a wrist shot into the upper corner of the net, assisted by Assistant Captain Peter Black (Senior-Bethesda, MD) and Dan Lechner (Jr-Rockville, MD), to give the Hoyas a 4-3 lead. Three minutes later, Justin McNamara (Soph-Wrentham, MA) gave the Hoyas a two-goal lead by firing a wrist shot past the Wolfpack goalie, assisted by a nice pass from behind the net by Will Peterson (Senior-Wayzata, MN). Finally, with two seconds left in the game, Alex Yale-Loehr scored his second goal of the game to secure the 6-3 victory, assisted by Lukas Autenried and John Ryder.
