Ryder University 6, Georgetown 2.
On Friday, November 14, 2008, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, Ryder University defeated the Georgetown University hockey team by the score of 6-2. The game was much closer than the final score. The Hoyas were within striking distance until the final several minutes. The Hoyas skated hard the entire game and matched Ryder in shots, with each team firing 32 shots on goal.
The game began as a tough defensive struggle. Ryder led 1-0 at the end of the first period. During a three-minute span toward the middle of the second period, Ryder scored 3 goals in succession to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Hoyas, however, came roaring back with 2 goals of their own in the second period to cut the lead to 4-2. Andrew Foley (Jr-New York, NY) scored the first goal for the Hoyas, in heavy traffic in front of the net, assisted by Charlie Beller (Soph-Chappaqua, NY) and Peter Black (Sr-Bethesda, MD). Toward the end of the second period, John Ryder (Freshman-Cleveland, OH) scored on a beautiful breakaway to give the Hoyas new life at 4-2. The score remained 4-2 until the last several minutes of the third period, when Ryder U scored shorthanded, and then into an empty net, to notch a 6-2 victory.
