Georgetown Hoyas

Georgetown Hockey

Duke 2, Georgetown 1

On Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the Triangle Sportsplex in Hillsborough,
NC, the Hoyas faced-off against the Duke Blue Devils. It was a
hard-fought, physical, and largely penalty-free game, with strong and
spirited play by both teams for 60 minutes. Although the Hoyas outskated
the Blue Devils for much of the game, and outshot them 30 to 15, the Duke
zone defense was packed-in, disciplined, and effective. Duke rarely gave
up a rebound, protected the slot, and fought hard in the corners and behind
the net. It was a great game.

There were only 3 goals scored in the game, each at even strength.
Incredibly, there was only one penalty called the entire game, a tripping
call against Duke midway through the 3d period.

Duke scored with about 5 minutes remaining in the 1st period to take the
lead. At 16:03 in the 2d period, Charlie Beller (Fr-Chappaqua, NY), scored
on slapshot from the point to tie the game, assisted by Steve Russell
(Sr-Andover, MA) and Charlie Walsh (Soph-Cheshire, CT). With 7:41
remaining in the second period, Duke scored on a quick wrister off a pass
from behind the net, and that turned out to be the game winner.
