On Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2007, during parents' weekend at the
McDonough School of Business, the Hoya Hockey team travelled to The Gardens
Ice House in Laurel, MD to face-off against the Maryland Terrapins, a
Division 1 ACHA team. The Hoyas played with pride and passion, skated
hard, and gave the Terrapins all they could handle.
Georgetown played an outstanding first period and jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Alexander "Sander" Porcelli (Soph-Montclair, NJ) scored both goals for the
Hoyas in the first period, assisted by Conor Hickton (Sr-Pittsburgh, PA),
Charlie Walsh (Soph-Cheshire, CT), and Joe Horgan (Soph-Lansdale, PA).
Maryland came roaring back in the second period by scoring 3 unanswered
goals to take a 3-2 lead. The Hoyas, however, bounced back on a patented
Charlie Walsh slapshot with 40 seconds remaining in the second period.
This tied the game 3-3 going into the final period.
The Terrapins came out flying in the third period and scored 3 consecutive
goals to take a 6-3 lead. Charlie Walsh scored his second goal of the game
with 5:20 remaining, assisted by Charlie Beller (Freshman-Chappaqua, NY) to
give the Hoyas renewed life. This closed the gap to 6-4. In the final
five minutes of the game, the Hoyas fought hard, crashed the net
(literally), and had a number of scoring opportunities, but could not
penetrate the goal.
