Georgetown Hoyas

Georgetown Hockey

Georgetown 3, St. Joseph's University 3 (Overtime).

On Friday night, January 25, 2008, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in
Arlington, VA, the Georgetown Hoya Hockey Team and the Hawks from St.
Joseph's University skated to a 3-3 tie, in overtime. It was an extremely
close, hard-fought, and exciting game. Georgetown had 42 shots on goal;
St. Joe's had 39. Georgetown had 10 minor penalties; St. Joe's had 13.

In the first period, the Hawks came out flying and the Hoyas were flat.
St. Joe's outshot the Hoyas 23-7 in the first period and dominated the
action. Due to the incredible play of Hoya goaltender Greg Graham
(Soph-Downingtown, PA), however, St. Joe's was held scoreless. Greg made
several outstanding saves, including on breakaways and two-on-one rushes.
With one minute left in the first period, Dave Glynn (Sr-Stoughton, MA)
scored off a rebound to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead, assisted by Charlie
Walsh (Soph-Cheshire, CT) and Conor Hickton (Sr-Pittsburgh, PA).

Seven minutes into the second period, Dave Glynn scored again, this time
on an unbelievable twisting, turning shot in traffic that bought the crowd
to its feet. Now down by two goals, the Hawks rose to the occasion and
scored two unanswered goals to tie the game 2-2 going into the second
intermission.

In the third period, the Hoyas dominated the action, outshooting the Hawks
20 to 6. But during a two-man advantage, St. Joe's leading scorer, Chris
Brennan (Jr-Bryn Mawr, PA) scored on a power play at the 13:47 mark to
give St. Joe's a 3-2 lead. Merely two minutes later, however, all-ACC
standout Dave Glynn netted a wrister from the right face-off circle,
assisted by Conor Hickton and Charlie Beller (Fr-Chappaqua, NY), to tie
the game 3-3. This was Dave's third goal of the game, and his second hat
trick of the season.

During the final 10 minutes of regulation, and 5 minutes of 4-on-4
overtime, Georgetown outskated and outshot St. Joe's, but could not
penetrate the goal, foiled in part by several nice saves by the Hawks'
goalie Rudy Mangino (Soph-Mill Neck, NY).
