Georgetown 6, University of North Carolina 1.
On Saturday, November 10, 2007, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the
Georgetown University hockey team outskated and overpowered the University
of North Carolina, prevailing by the score of 6 to 1. The Hoyas started
out slowly, and the score was tied 1-1 at the end of the first period.
Georgetown, however, dominated the remainder of the game, scoring 5
unanswered goals and outshooting the Tar Heels by the incredible margin of
65 to 9.
Clayton Kossl (Fr-Kennelon, NJ) started in goal for the Hoyas and played
well during his two periods of action. Ryan Berg (Soph-Pewaukee, WI) was
flawless in goal for the final period, surrendering nothing to the Tar
Heels.
Co-captains Conor Hickton (Sr-Pittsburgh, PA) and Dave Glynn (Sr-Stoughton,
MA) were the offensive stars of the game for the Hoyas. Dave had 1 goal
and 4 assists, including several outstanding passes that set-up his
teammates for goals. Conor scored the first two goals for the Hoyas on
laser-like wrist shots that stunned the Tar Heels' goaltender and lodged
deep in the net. Brendan Surma (Jr-Pittsburgh, PA) and Charlie Walsh
(Soph-Cheshire, CT) each had one assist from the point. Joe Horgan
(Soph-Lansdale, PA) scored midway through the second period on a tough
wrist shot from a difficult angle, assisted by Paul Svirbel (Jr-Pittsburgh,
PA) and Dave Glynn. Andrew Foley (Soph-New York, NY) opened the third
period by scoring from close range on a give-and-go with Dave Glynn.
Charlie Beller (Fr-Chappaqua, NY) scored the Hoyas' final goal of the game
on a powerful blast from the right circle, assisted by a nice fake-shot and
deft pass from Dave Glynn.
