Georgetown Hoyas

Georgetown Hockey

University of Virginia 10, Georgetown 5

On Friday, November 2, 2007, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the
Georgetown University hockey team was engaged in a tight back-and-forth
battle with the University of Virginia Cavaliers. The score was tied 5-5
with 10 minutes remaining in the third period. During the last 10 minutes
of the game, however, while the Hoyas were visiting the penalty box, the
Cavaliers were visiting the back of the net, scoring 5 unanswered goals to
seal a 10-5 victory.

Aside from the last 10 minutes, it was a very close and exciting game.
Virginia jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first five minutes. Then
Georgetown center and co-captain Dave Glynn (Sr-Stoughton, MA) took over.
Dave scored two unassisted goals to tie the game 2-2. For his first goal,
Dave deked three Virginia defenders in the slot area and fired a wrist shot
past the stunned Cavalier goaltender. Two minutes later, Dave stole the
puck in the corner, cut to the right circle, and fired a perfectly placed
wrist shot in the upper right corner of the net to tie the game.

After Virginia took the lead 3-2, Hoya co-captain Conor Hickton
(Sr-Pittsburgh, PA) brought the crowd to its feet on a great breakaway move
and goal, assisted by Charlie Walsh (Soph-Cheshire, CT) to knot the score
at 3-3 early in the second period. Virginia scored next to take a 4-3 lead,
but the Hoyas came roaring back to tie the game 4-4 on a hard-fought goal
from short range by Justin McNamara (Freshman-Wrentham, MA), assisted by
Will Peterson (Jr-Wayzata, MN) and Cody Ling (Soph-Chatham, MA). Once
again, the Cavaliers scored to take a 5-4 lead, but the Hoyas would not be
denied.

With 14:30 remaining in the third period, Georgetown goaltender Greg Graham
(Soph-Downingtown, PA) made a crisp outlet pass to Conor Hickton, and Conor
powered his way coast-to-coast down the right side and beat the Virginia
netminder with a great finishing shot to tie the score at 5-5. It was the
first assist of the year for goalie Graham, and the last highlight of the
evening for the Hoyas.
