Game Recap: October 14 vs UK (1-5) L
On Saturday, October 14, 2017, at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD, the Georgetown Hoya Hockey Team faced-off against the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky. It was a fast-paced and hard-fought game. The final was 5-1 in favor of the Wildcats, but the level of competition and competitiveness was much closer than the final score.
The first period featured back-and-forth action with neither team taking control. With 23 seconds remaining in the period, Kentucky scored from the left circle and went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
In the middle of the second period, Kentucky scored again to take a two-goal lead. With 3:03 remaining in the second period, the Hoyas rallied and tallied. Matt Gallo (Fr, Summit, NJ) went coast-to-coast with impressive speed down the left side of the rink, eluding several Wildcat defenders, including two who collided with each other while trying to deliver a big check to Matt near the penalty box. After a fierce scramble in the slot, Luc Woodard (Sr, West Tisbury, MA) scored from close range, assisted by Connor Prochnow (Sr, Kansas City, Mo.). This cut the Kentucky lead to 2-1 and it was anyone’s game.
During the final 21 minutes of action, however, the Wildcats capitalized on Hoya penalties (which totaled 9 for the game) and scored three unanswered goals to seal the victory. Two of the goals were during 4-on-4 action in which the Wildcats took advantage of more open ice. The other goal was on a power play. During the third period, the shots on goal were 12 for Georgetown and 11 for Kentucky.
Next Game: Saturday, October 21 vs St. Joseph’s University of Philadelphia. Game time has not yet been determined.
