Game 8: Hoyas Delete St. Joes in 4-1 win

On Sunday, October 24, 2021, the Hoyas travelled to The Skatium in Havertown, PA to face-off against the Hawks of St. Joseph’s University.  It was an important league game for the Hoyas and they made the most of it.

In the first period, the game was a close battle with Georgetown controlling the pace of play and time of possession. The Hoyas, however, could not find the back of the net, with many missed opportunities and shots wide of the goal.  St. Joe’s had some chances but they were shut down by stellar goaltending from Hoya netminder Mark Peracchia (Fr. NYC, NY).

In the second period, the game remained scoreless, but not without opportunities for the Hoyas, who could not capitalize after six continuous minutes of advantaged play. Penalties by Georgetown freshman Jay Kim (Toronto, ON) and senior captain Adam Cookson (Medway, MA) kept the Hoyas short-handed and on the defensive during the last part of the second period.

In the third period, the floodgates opened. Within the first 3 minutes, freshman Jay Kim hammered home a hard shot from fellow freshman Peter Korn (Morristown, NJ), off an assist from senior captain Danny Overcash (Chevy Chase, MD).  Only 2 minutes later, Hoya defensemen EJ Millisor (Grad. Ecorse, MI) put the team on his back, first scoring on a blistering shot from the point after an assist by Joey Schiavone (Jr. Palmetto, FL), and then scoring again on his next shift after dangling around multiple St Joe’s defensemen. The Hoyas, now holding a 3-0 lead, got complacent and allowed St. Joe’s to score a back-door goal—their only tally of the game. Hoya captain Danny Overcash quickly responded by scoring on a hard shot from the point off a pass from co-captain Adam Cookson. The remaining 8 minutes of the game saw Hoya goaltender Mark Peracchia standing on his head and saving every puck fired his way.  For the game, Mark saved 34 shots on goal and led the Hoyas to an exciting 4-1 victory.

To top-off an important league victory, Hoya parents Rob and Sheri Churchill graciously treated the entire team to Philadelphia Cheesesteaks!  Hoya Saxa!
